When performing two accelerometer PIT tests, if the top of the pile cannot be struck, can the pile be struck on the side?

Yes, an engineer can strike the pile’s side when performing a two accelerometer PIT test. To do so, create a small notch above the accelerometer; or attach a “wedge” on the opposite side of the pile from the accelerometer. Then, strike the pile axially at least one diameter above the top accelerometer.
