Q

Are TIP results easy to interpret?

A

TIP will measure the local temperatures as a function of depth. If there are no significant and abrupt changes in the temperature measurements as compared to the average temperature, then the element is uniform. Inputting the volume for the shaft will yield the shaft shape as well as the radius at any location. As with any NDT test method, care should be taken to consider all available data when analyzing a shaft, including the field installation records and soil borings.
