Q

Is a PDA testing required during both the test pile period for establishing driving criteria and production pile period after driving criteria?

A

Testing should establish the driving criteria and should certainly include testing piles either as part of a preconstruction test program or as a minimum the first piles driven on project. Testing should cover the footprint of the site to investigate site variability. For larger projects, it is recommended to test any pile with an unusual driving log and periodically test to confirm consistent hammer performance since the hammer performance will affect the blow count which is the basis for most driving criteria.
