Q

When performing two accelerometer PIT tests, if the top of the pile cannot be struck, can the pile be struck on the side?

A

Yes, an engineer can strike the pile's side when performing a two accelerometer PIT test. To do so, create a small notch above the accelerometer; or attach a “wedge” on the opposite side of the pile from the accelerometer. Then, strike the pile axially at least one diameter above the top accelerometer.
