Q

What is the best time for Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP)?

A

For assessing overall shape, the measurements near the time of peak temperature are preferred. Defects are best detected relatively early in the curing process; typically about half the time required to reach peak temperature. The optimum time is unknown a priori, so recording the temperatures at frequent periodic intervals allows searching the data for the best possible evaluation. Using the Thermal Wire® cables allows recording temperature versus time so the entire temperature versus time history can be inspected and both shape and defect evaluation are then easily possible.
