Mohamad Hussein, P.E. has been associated with the original inventors of modern dynamic pile testing and analysis methods and equipment for more than 27 years. He is a Vice President of GRL Engineers, Inc. (GRL), a consulting engineering firm with offices nationwide, specializing in dynamic pile testing and analysis. He is also a Partner in Pile Dynamics, Inc., the inventors, developers, and manufacturers of electronic pile testing equipment (e.g., Pile Driving Analyzer® (PDA), Pile Integrity Tester (PIT), SPT Analyzer, Pile Installation Recorder (PIR), CHA, E-Saximeter, etc.) and the authors of many computer programs (i.e., CAPWAP®, GRLWEAP, etc.) that are industry standards worldwide. PDI has representatives worldwide.
Professional Registration: Florida P.E. No. 41034, Louisiana P.E. No. 30916, Ohio P.E. No. 55667; Alabama P.E. No. 25819, Mississippi P.E. No. 16077
Experience: Conducted field pile dynamic testing and related data analysis for more than 1000 deep foundation projects in 35 States in the U.S.A. and 20 countries overseas. Since 1987, managed the GRL Florida operations and consulted on more than 300 bridge projects in the State (e.g., New Edison Bridge, Buckman Bridge, Howard Frankland Bridge, Orange County Expressway bridges, Mantanzas Inlet Bridge, MacArthur Causeway Bridge, West Bay Bridge, Lake Jessup Bridge, Nassau Sound Bridge, I-75, I-4 and I95 bridge widenings, etc.) and hundreds of other public and private projects (e.g., Orlando International Airport, Tampa Stadium, JaxPort, Disney World, Orange County Conventio n Center, etc.); trained engineers from consulting firms, contractors, and the State DOTs on the use of the PDA and PIT and related dynamic pile testing equipment, CAPWAP and GRLWEAP software; conducted state-of-the-art research on deep foundations in association with DOTs and Universities; and organized educational courses and seminars on deep foundations. Mohamad has achieved the level of PDA Signatory – Expert in the Foundation QA High Strain Dynamic Pile Testing examination (view certificate here).
Professional Affiliations: Member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMFE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Florida Engineering Society (FES), Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), ASTM, PCI, and others. Mr. Hussein is the Past Chairman (2002-2009) of the Deep Foundations Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE’s Geo- Institute and the Director of ASCE’s nationally offered Continuing Education Course on Deep Foundations Design, Construction, and Quality Control. Membership in several Technical Committees: National Research Council’s Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Foundations For Bridges and Other Structures (past member), Driven Piles and Testing Committees of the Deep Foundations Institute, ASTM Committee D-18, PCI’s Committee on Piles, Chairman of the PDCA’s Education Committee, and others. Recipient of the 2010 Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Council (GMEC) Award.
Publications: More than 80 technical publications at national and international conferences on the subject of deep foundations. Topics include: pile capacity in soils with time dependent characteristics, uplift and compression pile capacities, hammer performance evaluations, assessment of piles under existing structures, integrity evaluations of driven and cast-in-place piles and shafts, and case studies. Co-author of the Geotechnical Engineering Chapter in the Standard Handbook For Civil Engineers, Fifth Edition, by the McGraw-Hill publishing company. Organized and co-edited the proceedings for the 5th International Conference on the Application of Stress-wave Theory to Piles.
